To this day, I can never shake the connection between this boy, Peeta Mellark, and the bread that gave me hope, and the dandelion that reminded me that I was not doomed.
“Good night,” I whisper to the bow in my hand and feel it go still. I raise my left arm and twist my neck down to rip off the pill on my sleeve. Instead my teeth sink into flesh. I yank my head back in confusion to find myself looking into Peeta’s eyes, only now they hold my gaze. Blood runs from the teeth marks on the hand he clamped over my nightlock. “Let me go!” I snarl at him, trying to wrest my arm from his grasp.
Make no mistake, the wildfires in Greece were not caused by natural phenomena, cigarettes or pollution.
One year ago, the government started arranging for a private company, Delfoi-Distomon, to have permission to set up a bauxite mine in Geraneia, which is a mountain range near Kineta. The bauxite mine would require the deforestation of the surrounding area. Activism and protests from the residents of the surrounding area became an obstacle to this arrangement and the idea was seemingly abandoned.
Just a year later, “wildfires” devastate Kineta and more areas with similar benefits to private companies.
